Abstract. The article studies the work of the modern Balkar poet, historian A. Alafaev, the author of numerous poetry collections – “Teacher” (2009), “Ariuka. Poems about love and friendship” (Nalchik, 2010), “Ayran”, “Dedication on the stone”, “My winged Elbrus” (2017), “The Road of Love. The path of the poet” (2021). The purpose of the article is to highlight the main stages of the life and work of A. Alafaev, to identify the ideological and thematic features of the works, as well as to outline his contribution to Balkar literature. The implementation of this goal necessitated the formulation and solution of the following tasks: relying on poetry collections, materials published in periodicals, to reveal the main motives of the lyrics, fundamental value orientations and moral aspirations of the poet.
